Welcome to the Show. Here's the first Quiz question for this evening Ladies & Gentlemen. After the 2008 NZ Yearling Sales, which NZHRW scribe stated that "Bettor's Delight is finished as a commercial sire in New Zealand, though he never really started" Was it... A- Mike Grainger B- Frank Marrion C- John Robinson D-Mick Guerin You may use a 50/50 or you may phone a friend. $1mil+ in Southern Hemisphere current season 3yo earnings eh? Curious as to what your obsession with Bettors Delight is. You must have had one of his good ones!

Indeed. He absolutely KILLED them Norm. No doubt Option B will simply overlook that small detail and instead rattle off yet another thinly disguised Info-mercial about Love You.

I know I have said things to come back to bite me! I remember lamenting Melbourne Cup time that Melbourne Cup fields aren't the calibre deserving of the how many millions it is worth now (6 million is it???). The horse that won it that year was called Makybe Diva, and I predicted that she would never win another race or note, a common occurance for Melbourne Cup winners! Not only did she win a slew of races, but the next 2 Melbourne Cups to boot. Luckily no-one ever remembered what I said, but I still chuckle about it!

No, I used to Buster...however you are confusing me with my significantly more capable and infinitely more user friendly younger brother.

Just looking at Bettor's Delight's foal numbers over the past several seasons in both Australia and New Zealand.
I tell you what, with the amount he gets he should be getting some nice horses. However statistic (percentage) wise, I wouldn't be so sure that he would be one of the better sires...

Hmmmm I've got this assignment due on the 13th, after that I think I'm going to do a little study. I did one last year on Mach Three because I was just dying to see if he lives up to the hype. Now Bettor's Delight has enlivened my curiosity! lol!!
Edit - will include foals to runners, runners to winners, runners to stakes winners, average earnings per foal, average earnings per starter.

Breeders Crown time last season when I was down there I notice almost half the field for one of the filly races were by Bettor's Delight also. But in saying that, I'm a firm believer in statistics and especially percentages. It's a great way to sort those that actually produce and those that are a result of an excellent advertising campaign. I kinda have a bee in my bonnet about him (Bettor's Delight) at the moment, I am actually looking forward to researching it. The higher the numbers the higher (in theory) should be stakes horses. That is when percentages are really useful to compare a variety of stallions with accuracy, no matter how many foals in each crop. As impressive a list as that appears, it must be compared with numbers in general and percentages of other stallions. My Mach Three study last year was very revealing to say the least!! I also, on a smaller scale, did one for Art Major, maybe if I have time I will revamp it too... I swear I could do this for a living.... lol!

flash i did a spreadsheet a while ago, but the problem in aus is that it includes alot of nz bred horses winning prizemoney but its near impossible to factor that into the foals born in australia

When I did the Mach Three one, I had to look at Australia and New Zealand at the same time, add earnings etc. Had them up on 2 different windows. While they seem to update the best winning mile rate in NZ site, they don't update exported horse's Australian earnings for the most part??? It was very time consuming, and while probably not 100% accurate it was accurate enough to draw conclusions for the purposes I need it for. I like the Australian site better than the NZ one, but I guess the NZ site is free and I pay to use the Australian one.
Also, is there any way to find the individual starts numbers - maybe I looked in the wrong spot, but off the top of my head I think I remember seeing how many starts Mach Three progeny had in races for a season in total, not individual number of starters...
Either way, one can still get foal to runner stats both sides of the tasman and from that you can get runner to stakes winners etc
