for mine its an obvious christain cullen on top for me and then mach three
obviously both would get the best mares in nz, go through the sales and be eligible for big races and then be sent to the best trainers

G'day Buster, It's all academic if you can't get your mare in foal. These days CC in particular has the fertility of a Eunuch.

G'day Buster, It's all academic if you can't get your mare in foal. These days CC in particular has the fertility of a Eunuch. This post had me in stitches. Thanks for the uploads Buster. If I remember, I have the Mach Three and Fake Left reports on my parent's computer, I go there tomorrow if I remember them I will upload them They got a new computer last week, but hopefully everything was transfered over, I spent a lot of time on them

As in write it down? I find that when you go to update things, it is easier if it is on a computer? Between having x8 two hour exams every year, writing is the last thing I always feel like doing. lol. I should have saved them to dropbox or a USB, but hopefully they are there. The two things I could remember was that Mach Three had done dreadful with Fake Left broodmares (a shame) and that Christian Cullen to a Fake Left broodmare only saw 50% foals to starters. lol. Perfect Art had done very well statistic wise with Fake Left so it was a no brainer that his full brother Art Major would do too. The rest I couldn't remember!

i'm no fan of using stats for broodmare sires to sires imo each mare is an individual so if there is only a small number of foals available for analysis then results can be skewed very easily -ie mach three has very small crops so maybe only 5 or 6 fake left mares even went to him and i know that the hrnz broodmare stats had errors in them www.harnessracing.co.nz/statistics.php

When I did my statistics on Mach Three - Fake Left there were only 6 in the statitic 3yo+. Will be adding to that, results DISMAL to date.
Sometimes people wonder why Broodmare A by Stallion A has gone good with Stallion B, but why Broodmare B by Stallion A hasn't done much good with Stallion B. On closer look at their predigrees, other than having the same sire, Broodmares A and B are bred completely differently.
One can use statistics as a starting and guiding point - but then the hard yards, looking up the pedigrees etc begins.
There is more to breeding than breeding the best to the best and hope for the best!

G'day Flashing,
You know, statistically and rather curiously one of the least productive X's as compared to the number of times it has been tried is Bettor's Delight over a Western Hanover mare. BD has kicked goals with mares by Die Laughing, Jate Lobell, No Nukes & even a little known son of No Nukes by the name of Big Rube...but for some reason he just doesn't seem to hit it off with Western Hanover mares. It's kind of strange because BD's sire, Cam's Card Shark, has done some really good things with Western Hanover mares. Ain't the roulette wheel of genetics just grand? :-P

this will offend some people, but all those stats can go jump
there are so so so many variables that go into a good horse that if breeding crosses and stats held any advantage then we wouldnt experience the roller coaster of racing
if i have a small high speed ITP mare i want a decent sized stallion known for strong horses and the opposite for heavy slow horses
how can you compare mares by what they are by? one probably won an oaks and has thrown 6 winners all by different stallions and the other is a nothing horse and your trying to compare stallions performance on that

I use statistics, AMONG VARYING other things, INCLUDING conformation, type, etc AS A STARTING POINT. There is no tried, true and tested breeding theory, but you can try and increase your odds. Why are some sires known as great broodmare sires. Why are some stallions fillys better than their colts? We know things like this due to statistics compiled after seasons and seasons of breeding. And just as a little side bit, when chosing stallions when I go through their progeny I will look at the mares race record and if they have produced anything of note the remaining progeny etc. What I do not do is go to a stallion just because he is "good". I also do not look at my spreadsheets and make decision in a statistical vacuum. It is merely a starting point, nothing more, nothing less. I'm not offended in anyway, but the cold, hard truth is that some lines go better than others (case in point Western Hanover - Artsplace and or Meadow Skipper - Abercrombie; Fake Left - Pefect Art), whether you like it or not - it isn't just for standardbreds, but for example thoroughbreds too. Your very own downloads are a form of statistic I use. All statistics are good for is to see whether something is performing above or below an average. After that they aren't much help and you move onto other things, whether it be type or whatnot. You have either misunderstood what I have said, or are too stubborn to think about new ideas
