Hey Rarebit, you seem to have a fair bit of knowledge on the breeding side. What do you make of the above Stallion. I have conducted my own search of races and pedigree. He seems to be the real deal. He was a gutsy racehorse, blessed with stamina and speed. I have followed Ideal Scott, and he did it tough a couple of times before winning off the front easily at 8,s. A big future maybe for his sire. Your thoughts ??

I really like him. Will go with all those In The Pocket broodmares Christian Cullen, Tinted Cloud and especially Courage (with Albatross maternally). He also has a double source of Strathmore (Globe Derby) maternally through K Nora, who carries it through her sire (Adios - who has a live line through Adioo Volo) and through Klatawah - who is a full brother to Charles Derby, who is the great-grandsire of Globe Derby, and the sire of Norice, the foundation mare of one of our greatest families. There is one great branch of the family - which goes through Single Star, which has THREE live lines to Steinway, Charles Derby's sire, through Nelson Derby, Rey De Oro and Norice. Monkey King is from this branch, as is Starship. Karloo Mick, Iraklis, Elect To Live (and Gotta Go Cullect) and not so bad horses such as Anvils Star, Courage To Rule, Brabham, Anvilanunoit and The Warp Drive (who all won over $400K). K Nora also the family Mr Feelgood (which is possibly why he has done so well here) and of Western Ideal and Life Sign and one of the greatest American mares of all time Eternal Camnation, so he has a lot going for him. She is number five on the list of millionaire earners and the richest mare. Funnily enough Mr Feelgood and Monkey King, are also in the top ten. Incidentally Art Major also goes back to Klata Thorne as does current star Big Jim. Hope that helps.

I just had a quick look at Ideal Scott. Just like the maternal line of American Ideal, we find a double shot of Globe Derby/Strathmore in Lordship and Rey De Oro directly off the maternal line. It's amazing how many times you find this sort of doubling up, in good horses, and not just Globe Derby, and it can shape the breed, as the Tom Hals did in the pedigrees of Hal Dale and Billy Direct/Walter Direct/Direct Hal, which came together through Adios and Tar Heel, and later through Meadow Skipper and Abercrombie. The Tom Hals descended from the Canadian Pacer, and the aforementioned sires really changed the gait of the pacer. . Tom Hal anywhere in a pedigree seems to dominate the gait, as the Billy Direct in the Direct Scooter pedigree, changes what is otherwise a pure trotting pedigree. There is no Tom Hal blood anywhere in the trotting pedigrees in either the US or Europe apart from three sires, and one of them is unproven (Majestic Son), and the other two are very obscure (From Above and Uronometro) but we got it in Australia and New Zealand very early on, through the likes of Jack Potts. Our trotters are rough gaited in comparison to modern US and Euro trotters, and most are much, much slower, the Prix D'Amerique was won in a 1.55 mile rate, over nearly two miles (2850m) with a 7m climb up one straight, and racing in a troika (three wide). Many of our early standardbreds were dual gaited, and manufactured pacers or trotters, now they are much more natural. But I believe the Strathmore line is the source of real stamina, they were brought out originally to improve the coach horses on the Sydney to Bathurst route (I think it was), and they raced the fastest ones. Strathmore was a pacer, but his first sons were all trotters, and they bred the first 2min trotter. You find him at the bottom of some of the top trotting lines even now, including the Italian champion Varenne, through a link to probably his most important sire son Steinway, who I mentioned earlier. Varenne descends from a sister of Steinway. It is also the maternal line of Evensong, who is the dam of Victory Song, and a former great sire here, Flying Song. And there is another Strathmore double in this pedigree too, Taffeta Silk, Even Song's grand dam was 2x4 maternally to Strathmore. Varenne was the greatest trotter I have ever seen, although Ready Cash may change that - he has a different source of stamina, but that is another story.

Sorry about the hiatus, appreciated your input. Have been backing AI horses only and have made good money over the last six months. As you can tell from my user name I have always ben a fan of the Globederby line. And I noticed your refference to Flying Song. Years ago my Aussie family and I were at Taree Trotting track and a raffle for a horse was won by my sister in law. It was a Holy Hal colt by Singalong a Flying Song mare. Called Lucky Draw it won plenty of country races and but for a shiiite trainer would have won at Harold Park..I dearly wanted to get my bro in law to breed it (still an entire) to some good mares. But Aussie country folk, need I say more, because I remember the Golden Cross of the 30,s and 40,s of Peter The Great and Axworthy. What are your thoughts on Goo Goo Gaa Gaa,being by a Pacing Stallion, and beating more reverred bred stock. It really is a lottery. I know AI has reduced the genetic pool since being intro,d in the sixtys in the states, which is a pity and it seems we are heading toward "speed .speed and more speed". Thats why I like AI,s, another import with real potential to impart some guts. Regards Globe aka Rees
